We're Brian and Corrine Vegter
Artists, event organizers and owners of Churchill School
We are so thankful for all of the support this project has received from the community, our friends and family. It's hard to believe that at this time last year, we would have accomplished so much in 2019. It was on Dec. 4th, 2018 that heat was turned on it the building for the first time in over 13 years. While there are still lots of places that are without a dedicated heating system, most of the regularly used spaces in Churchill now have some kind of heat.
The long and short of the heating story is that the boiler system is, neither of them will ever work again. So, even though we were told when we bought the building they would fire right up, we had to get creative and added systems in the areas that see the most use, with the exception of the Dancehall, because our funds for something adaquate to heat that part of the building had run out.
The other major project ahead of us is the roof which hasn't been repaired or replaced since Churchill was built in 1925. We worked with friends this fall to repair three areas that were of the greatest concern, and so far so good. We've stopped the leakes!!! In the spring we will write a grant for funds to replace the south side roof completely, but with the need for matching funds we're asking you for help. We have friends willing to help with the labor again next year, but the funds to accomplish the task are what we're seeking. Just $10 from 100 people will make a big impact on the grant committee from State Presevation. Your help will signify to them the community support and help prompt them to provide the additional funds needed to complete the project.
On our wishlist of things to help improve the experiences people have whie they come to Churchill are as follows. These things may not save the building directly, but they will help us to show the world what amazing things are or could be happening here.
We would like to get a used or new iMac and video cameras to document and then upload segments of concerts to YouTube. Many people still don't know what it's like to see a concert at Churchill Dancehall and we know this will help. It will attrach new audiences to the space and provide a way for us to show touring musicians that Eastern Oregon is a place they should come. The price tag for this is in the range of $2,500 to $6,000
2nd an upgrade to our screening system for films, public presentations and music events is another thing we know will be an improvement. While we have a system that makes it possible to do what we're doing, we know with some upgrades we can provide you with a better experience.
A new projector and screen will cost between $3,000 and $8,000.
Lastly and most simple on our wishlist is a recirculatling pump for our water heater to be added to the showers of the Old School Bike/Ski Hostel. The cost will be in the ballpark of $600 including the pump and labor.
The donate button below allows you to choose how much and to what projects you want to fund. The money will go directly to Churchill.

Here's a video we made last year in September when we did our first crowd funding campaign. Watch it again (or for the 1st time) and see if you think anything has changed.
We're so glad you found us and hope you come see us here soon.
